Forbidden Love

Love is everywhere. Love is an uncontrollable feeling that people can’t resist to have, even when it’s forbidden, looked down upon, or goes against society’s expectations. In the play, “Hamlet”, Hamlet and Ophelia love each other with an intense passion. Their relationship has complications Because of their status in society; Hamlet is royalty while Ophelia is not. This causes complications because Hamlet should not be seeing Ophelia because she is not royalty, so they have to keep it a secret. Ophelia’s brother, Laertes, says that Hamlet and she can’t be together forever due to Hamlet’s social status and Ophelia will end up being hurt. Laertes says that Hamlet wants to be with Ophelia out of lust, not so much out of love. Ophelia’s father also says that they can’t be together and Hamlet wants Ophelia for the wrong reasons. This is similar to the movie, Avatar, where two different worlds meet and Aladdin, where a princess and a kid off the streets meet.

Nephew VS Uncle

In class, we started reading the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. At the beginning of the play, we find out that King Hamlet has experienced an unknown death and that King Hamlet’s brother married King Hamlet’s wife and is now king. Hamlet doesn’t agree with the marriage at all and is confused on what had happened to his dad. To me, this play is very similar to the movie, The Lion King, in many ways.

Would you kill someone?

Last Friday, my English class and I discussed a of couple different yet intriguing topics that really interested me and made me wonder. My teacher asked us the following questions: “Would kill you kill someone?”, “Would you kill a family member?”, “Would you kill a family member if they murdered your father?”, “Do you believe in hell, ghosts, demons or etc.?”, “If you believe in hell, does it keep you from doing certain things?”, and “How much do you value your life?” These insightful questions made the students, including myself, think a little more differently than the average “lunch-time” chatter would.

Love, Hate Relationships

In class, there have been presentations on the things students loved or hated. Many of the students shared their passion of things they loved such as: baking, presenting in front of people, fencing, stupid people, and family members. There were also students that talked about things they hated such as: people smoking, presenting in front of people, and things people do while driving. Although these are just several presentations that were done in front of the class, every student got to share what they loved or hated. They also shared reasons of why they chose that as their passion, which included their passions to be hobbies, part of their lives, or something they just couldn’t stand. One movie that comes to my mind about someone loving something with a huge reason of why it’s a passion is Silver Linings Playbook. Another movie that shows someone hating something was Flipped.
